What is the best placement for a front firing home theatre sub?

The sub I purchased is the Polk Audio Micro Pro 4000. It is a 12 in front firing sub with a 12x12 bass radiator facing the floor. I am not pleased with the amount of bass I have been getting so far. The sub has a 1400 watt rms digital amp that peaks at 2400 watts. (so I had pretty high expectations) However I don't feel that it has much more bass than the $100 front firing sony sub that it has replaced. My room size is 20x15 and has a door way on each side, also I have wood floors with plaster walls. (I don't know if that matters) The sub came with a mic that adjust the sub and I have ran it through this process multiple times and have not been impressed. I may return the sub but I feel like I will not find a sub with more power or better built for the money it is strange to me because the sub moves allot and looks like its pounding but has very little bass. I have moved it around a little bit but have not found a sweet spot. Please help.

Placement can make a huge difference because you actually get MORE sound from wall reflections than directly from the sub. Moving the sub a foot changes a lot of things.

do this:

Create a long subwoofer cable with RG6 CATV coax and some "F-to-RCA-Male" adapters from Radio Shack.

Move your couch away and put the sub in place of where you usually sit.

Disconnect all other speakers and fire up a bass-heavy CD or movie scene (Like the lobby shoot-out from the original Matrix movie)

Find the corner of the room with the 2 longest, un-broken walls and start crawling along the walls with a 6-pack of your favorite beer.

Move a foot and LISTEN. As you go back and forth you will notice some spots are quiet, some are LOUD and BOOMY and some spots the sound is smooth and tight. Mark the smooth/tight spots with a bottle of beer.

Repeat by going along the other wall. This whole process should take you 30 minutes because you have to take the time to listen.

When you have a few spots marked, re-locate the sub to one of these positions, put the couch back, pop open the beer and enjoy.
