How come avi looks better on my tube tv?
Just got a lcd and hooked up my standard avi satellite receiver but the picture quality was much better on my old tv.I know if I got a hd receiver it would be better Im just curious why tube/crt's have better avi quality
I've never really understood the logic of spending $800 on an LCD TV, but not upgrading the receiver.
Because your in the USA, you can (most likley) get beautiful reception with an antenna. (See AntennaWeb.org for details).
I would recommend doing that for sure. Even if you just get an indoor antenna.
That being said, there are likley some things you can do to fine tune your picture (even with the stand definition).
- Set your Box to out put 16:9
- If you can't set the box, then set your TV to 4:3. This will leave black lines on the sides, but this will fix the issue of stretching.
This is an example of imaged stretched by having the TV set in properly http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HBxGU2ecXSs/SxQYD5Ow7-I/AAAAAAAABoQ/JKj70mzpiAc/s1600/16_9_with_4_3_stretch.jpg
- Throw your yellow composite cable in the trash. Never let it touch your HDTV, even for a million dollars.

- Use component cable
They look like this - http://www.bektel.com/image/cache/Component_Cable.jpg
- Set your box to out put at 480p
Do all of these things and that should improve the picture a great deal, but as I said, I can't get behind the logic of spending $800 on an HDTV then refusing to watch HD content on it.
