Is the Nikon Coolpix 12.1 megapixel digital camera a good Idea for me?
I am a 15 year old girl who is EXTREMELY in to photography. I love having the ability to capture the beauty of everything I see. I have an Insignia digital camera right now that I've had for almost two years, and its only 7 mega pixels. I'm looking to upgrade and because I'm 15, money is pretty tight. I don't want something too big and advanced, but I do want to start working my way up to that. Please tell me what you think of me getting this kind of camera and what you think of this camera. And if you have suggestions, I would love them. I will take suggestions for good photo printers too.
P.S. My budget is around $300 or $400, I may even be able to do $500, but that would be pushing it.

First--always remember, the camera is just a tool; it's an extension of the creative eye of the photographer (you). You know what's best for your needs; what you're comfortable with; and your budget.
Speaking as an experienced newspaper photographer and service photographer, I take the photographer seriously and--most importantly, the pictures she produces--and it doesn't matter whether the image was produced with a point-and-shoot or a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera.
There is nothing wrong with a Nikon Coolpix. I used to have one myself and on two occasions, I had to use it (in two separate emergency situations) to photograph one wedding and one 18th birthday cotillion (I was attending both as a guest, and I had purposely left all my professional gear at home). It worked for me, and it most certainly can work for you.
However--because you are serious about your photography, I would seriously consider shopping around for a DSLR with a decent kit lens (either a Canon or Nikon). Many photographers start with a budget DSL and then decide to upgrade to the "pro-sumer" (and even the professional bodies), and you may be able to get a pre-owned budget DSLR with lens that fits your budget.
I know you said $500 would be "pushing it"--but shooting for (no pun intended) your first DSLR, and then learning everything about it (especially "manual mode") would give you the updgrade you want now; but would also provide a stepping-stone for you to take your photography to the next level and beyond--once you decide it's time.
For conclusion... Yes, a Nikon Coolpix could work for you. It's a good idea to be able to handle it; play with the controls; take a few pictures with it before you buy. You should be very comfortable with handling it, and like it (and that goes without saying). This applies to any camera you purchase now, and in the future--since it will become an extension of you.
